Unfortunately that performance by Team Chicago was forgotten when they were disqualified during the Championship round of the Haier Shooting Stars competition saturday night in Las Vegas. Ben Gordon accidentally took an early three-point shot while it was Candice Dupree's turn. With the camera on Candice the TV viewer witnessed an errant ball coming out of the top of the screen just as Candice pulled the trigger. Her ball landed directly on top of Ben Gordon's ball just as it reached the end of it's premature journey through the hoop. Dupree's ball rimmed out and yet she unknowingly cued Gordon to immediately retake his shot -- possibly thinking it was hers that went in. Gordon sank another and the team continued their attempt to best Team Detroit's incredible success in the championship round. In the final task each member of the team takes turns round-robin style attempting to hit a half-court shot. Scottie Pippen, with rumors of him seeking another chance as an NBA star after a three year absence, hits the high pressure final second shot on his second attempt of the round. The crowd's reaction was mixed as Pippen raised his hands in victory. His fists opened from an empowered air-pump to an incredulous inquiry asking "why" to the anti-climactic atmosphere. The answer came from the officials who reviewed the tape of the collision between Gordon and Dupree's basket balls and determined that it was Gordon's that went in, and that subsequently Team Chicago skipped Candice's shot. Even though Scottie Pippen had helped his team complete the round in less time than Team Detroit, the mistake by Gordon and the insistance of Dupree appears to have cost them all the bragging rights and the $15,000 prize.
